Barthold Kuijken, conductor and flutist
The IBO commemorates the recent 250th anniversary of the death of Georg Philipp Telemann, who has for years been a favorite of both the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra and its audience. A contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach, Telemann (1681–1767) eclipsed Bach in popularity during the 18th century but then suffered neglect until the early music revival of the later 20th century. His charming and imaginative music has come back strong in recent decades and the IBO sends its “love letter” to him in a concert full of concertos, featuring IBO conductor and flute soloist Barthold Kuijken, and other orchestral works.
