Theaster Gates Lecture: 7:30 p.m., October 21
Social practice art draws on numerous creative disciplines and has evolved in recent decades from performance, participatory art, activist art, ephemeral art and relational aesthetics. Multidisciplinary and inclusive, social practice artists endeavor to engage local communities in the creation of the art outside the studio or classroom, activating people and places for social and cultural empowerment. The art in the exhibit will reflect these elements.
