These artist talks will feature artists currently working in Social Practice Art or Creative Placemaking and are sponsored by UIndy’s MA in Social Practice Art. The first one is Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. with Sean M. Starowitz.
Sean M. Starowitz will offer an artist talk centered on regeneration and reconciliation that highlights his recent projects around monument removal, public memory, and public art. He will also explore various topics on social practice and the field of creative placemaking in the Midwest.
Sean M. Starowitz’s work is executed in a variety of social, political, and community-engaged contexts. Recent projects focus on public memory and monument reconciliation, including “statues are silent teachers” and Monumental Void. Starowitz has recently curated Paper Pavilions, a group exhibition exploring race and landscape in the Indiana uplands region.
