Classics to Moderns

Faculty feature compelling works of the 18th through 21st centuries, with Francis Poulenc’s eloquent 1962 Sonata for oboe and piano providing the centerpiece. Susan Chan teams with Tamara Thweatt in selections from Windelen Bitzan’s recent suite entitled “Zoological Gardens”; Mitzi Westra joins Ms. Chan in music of Margaret Brouwer. Our accomplished brass faculty perform the 1961 Brass Quintet of Sir Malcolm Arnold, a composer best known for his Academy Award-winning score for the 1957 epic film, The Bridge on the River Kwai. Richard Ratliff opens the evening with music of Haydn, the C-Major London Sonata, H.XVI:50.
