Faculty Artist Concert Series: Hot music for a cold night

Marko Petričić, bayan; Tamara Thweatt, flute; Amy Petrongelli, soprano; Claire Longendyke, piano; Art Reiner Trio—Kevin Anker, piano; Jonathan Wood, bass; Art Reiner, drums

Marko Petričić opens the evening with classical and folk bayan accordion music from Eastern Europe to Latin America. Faculty and guests then present two fresh contemporary works.  First, highly awarded and internationally known American composer Kevin Beavers will be present for the world premiere of his Sonata for Flute and Piano (2021), performed by UIndy faculty Tamara Thweatt, flute, with guest pianist, Clare Longendyke. Then a new song cycle, Bloom to Bloom (2020), by UIndy composition professor, John Berners. The cycle is composed on five strikingly expressive texts by UIndy Poet and English Professor Emerita, Alice Friman, performed by guest artists Amy Petrongelli, soprano and Clare Longendyke, piano.  Art Reiner’s jazz trio ends the concert with some hot music for a cold night.
