The Indianapolis Quartet: March Masterworks
Zachary DePue and Joana Genova, violins; Michael Isaac Strauss, viola; Austin Huntington, cello; with guest Mark Ortwein, bassoon
Presented by Katz, Sapper & Miller
The Indianapolis Quartet invites guest bassoonist Mark Ortwein to premiere the Concertino for Bassoon and Strings by UIndy’s own Matthew Bridgham. The program also includes Schubert’s Quartettsatz in C minor, D. 703 (quartet movement from an unfinished quartet); Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in E minor, Op. 44, No.2; and Jessie Montgomery’s Strum. Montgomery’s music interweaves classical music with elements of vernacular music, improvisation, language, and social justice, with Strum being anchored in a twenty-first-century American sound and experience.
