An Evening featuring Jazz Guitarist Charlie Ballantine and Jazz Pianist Steven Jones
This evening, two members of the UIndy jazz faculty, guitarist Charlie Ballantine and pianist Steven Jones, perform original and standard tunes in trio and quartet formats with UIndy jazz faculty members bassist Brandon Meeks, and drummer Kenny Phelps. All four of these gentlemen are some of the Midwest’s most sought-after jazz artists and teachers. Charlie Ballantine, who’s guitar-work has been called “teeming with intricate grooves and maniacal precision” by Jazziz Magazine, is an internationally renowned, award-winning, touring guitarist, who has been a featured headlining artist at notable events such as the Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, Indy Jazz Fest, the Bloomington Jazz Festival, and the Elkhart Jazz Festival. As an anchor of the Indianapolis jazz scene for the past two decades, pianist and composer Steven Jones has performed with the best performers throughout the region including Oliver Nelson, Jr., Clifford Ratliff, Rob Dixon, Kenny Phelps, Frank Glover, and Mark Buselli. Jones is also an integral member of such well-known groups as Triology and Premium Blend. His work with Premium Blend was heavily featured in the award-winning Heartland Film Festival documentary, “Go Get Your Horn.”
