The Taming of The Shrew
by William Shakespeare, adapted by Grant Williams
This roundtable discussion, between faculty members from the departments of Theatre, Sociology, and English, will unpack the legacy of Shakespeare’s play and its troubling presentation of gender by analyzing its literary significance as well as its rich stage and film history. The discussion will also shed light on the current production’s decision to employ gender-blind casting and its particular 1960s setting as a way to interrogate notions of gender and representation.
