Free swing dance lesson: 6:30 p.m.
The UIndy Jazz Ensemble is the flagship of the Jazz Studies program at the University of Indianapolis. This ensemble performs multiple concerts per semester and the students in this group, who audition for membership just prior to the fall semester, have the opportunity to perform music from the great big bands including Duke Ellington and Count Basie, as well as from modern-day composers such as Maria Schneider and Jim McNeely.
The ensemble will perform swing band classics such as Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood” and Benny Goodman’s “Sing Sing Sing.” Following a free swing dance lesson prior to the performance, the audience is encouraged to join the band onstage for dancing.
